The Tullman-Ercek laboratory at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois is seeking two postdoctoral researchers to join the team for up to three years with competitive salaries and travel support. The laboratory is part of the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, the Center for Synthetic Biology, the Chemistry of Life Processes Institute, and the Engineering Biology Research Consortium. The broad goal of the Tullman-Ercek laboratory research is to understand and engineer the transport of small molecules and proteins across several types of cellular membranes toward applications in the production of biochemicals, pharmaceuticals, and biomaterials. To this end, the group studies and engineers membrane transporter systems as well as proteinbased membranes such as virus-like particles.
For these positions, we seek highly motivated individuals that can contribute to i) manipulating virus-like particle assemblies for applications in drug delivery, ii) engineering a bacterial secretion system for protein production, and/or iii) exploring the possibilities of engineering biology for spaceflight missions. The success of this work depends on a highly interdisciplinary team.
