Reference: JOB529
Location: South East England, United Kingdom
Employer: University of East Anglia - School of Environmental Sciences
Application deadline: CLOSED

We are looking for a senior postdoctoral researcher to work on a research project entitled “Bacterial isoprene metabolism: a missing link in a key global biogeochemical cycle” which is funded through an ERC Advanced Grant to Professor Colin Murrell, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, UK. The aim of the project is to obtain a critical, fundamental understanding of the metabolism and ecological importance of biological isoprene degradation and to test the hypothesis that isoprene degrading bacteria play a crucial role in the biogeochemical isoprene cycle. Key goals are to elucidate the biological mechanisms by which isoprene is metabolised, establish novel methods for the study of isoprene biodegradation and to understand at the mechanistic level how isoprene cycling by microbes is regulated in the environment.
The position is suitable for a microbiologist with a strong publication record and extensive experience in the use of biochemistry and molecular biology/physiology techniques to study metabolic pathways in microbes involved in biogeochemical cycles. The successful applicant will have a PhD in a relevant field and postdoctoral experience in microbial biochemistry, physiology and molecular biology of environmentally-relevant microbes. The anticipated start date for this project is 1st May 2017 (negotiable).
