The Flinders Accelerator for Microbiome Exploration, FAME, is a new interdisciplinary research group at Flinders University with the mission of expanding access to microbiome and metagenomics approaches to accelerate the development of microbiome research across the biosphere!
Research Associate in Bioinformatics
https://jobs.flinders.edu.au/en/job/497394/research-associate-in-bioinformatics
As part of the Accelerator, the Research Associate in Bioinformatics will analyse viral genomics and metagenomics data. This ongoing challenge requires talented, creative individuals to generate novel approaches to data mining. The Post-Doctoral researcher will advance viral genomics and metagenomics by leveraging experimental data in the development and maintenance of novel software packages to analyse these complex datasets. You will write and release code for ‘omics analysis using the latest breakthroughs in biology, machine learning, data science, and computer science. You will develop cutting-edge approaches to explore complex datasets and interact with researchers to implement these approaches across the entire microbial spectrum, from phages and viruses associated with IBD to microbes associated with soil or marine vertebrates.
Research Associate in FAME Liaison
https://jobs.flinders.edu.au/en/job/497395/research-associate-in-fame-liaison
As part of the Accelerator we are employing a Research Associate in Fame Liaison to become the FAME Project Liaison. In this position, the incumbent will integrate the growing volume of viral and microbial metagenomics data that is being generated from disparate sources and develop unifying models of microbial ecology. The Research Associate will work with both experimentalists and bioinformaticians to generate new datasets and software solutions to analyze the data. The successful candidate will initiate new collaborations with researchers across Flinders University, Flinders Medical Center, and South Australia to enable the use of metagenomics and to help researchers expand their horizons.
Research Associate in Modeling Marine Microbiomes
https://jobs.flinders.edu.au/en/job/497396/research-associate-in-modelling-marine-microbiomes
As part of the Accelerator we are employing a Research Associate that will focus on Modeling Marine Microbiomes. The appointee will work as part of a team to analyse microbiomes and metagenomes associated with marine vertebrates, including fish, sharks and mammals. The position will investigate the interplay between microbiomes and marine vertebrates by describing the effect on microbiomes with host phylogeny, traits, migration patterns, or as populations spread across the globe. The researcher will collect and analyse microbiomes from vertebrates from around the world, and/or those associated with hosts under experimental conditions. The outcome of the research will be models of microbiomes to increase the understanding of the influence of microbes across the tree of life.
