JAMS Charter

The mission of JAMS is to provide an inclusive and diverse community for microbiologists at every level, in which scientific research can be discussed in a relaxed and open atmosphere. JAMS is especially committed to amplifying the voices of younger scientists (students and ECRs) by giving them a platform to showcase their research findings and recognise their scientific contributions.

In order to achieve our mission, we expect the JAMS committee and community to uphold and demonstrate our four core values, as follows:

  • Community – The cornerstone of the JAMS vision is to create a diverse community of microbiologists from all sectors of society to enable communication of science in an open and friendly manner
  • Integrity – This includes both scientific and personal integrity, and accountability to our fellow committee members and the wider JAMS community
  • Respect – Treating all people in the committee and the wider JAMS community with respect regardless of age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, or physical ability
  • Welcoming – We welcome both microbiologists and members of the wider community to share with us in the wonders and joy of microbiology
