Job Opportunity – Post Doc/Research Assistant in Synthetic Biology

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD or Honours graduate with skills in molecular biology and microbiology to work on an exciting new multidisciplinary joint 5 year project with an industry partner. The work will involve development and testing of genetically and metabolically engineered strains of a proprietary yeast to produce high-value green energy and green chemical compounds. Research will be based at the University of Newcastle, and also involve translating research outcomes at the soon to be completed Hunter Pilot Biorefinery site in the Hunter Valley.

Funding for the position is available for an initial period of one year, continuing up to a maximum of 4.5 years depending on the date of commencement and performance. Pay will be commensurate with qualifications starting at UoN HEW level 5 step 1 for recent honours graduates or Academic level A step 6 for PhD graduates.

  • Familiarity with sequencing/transcriptome data sets
  • Basic understanding of synthetic biology and metabolic engineering
